Red Devils Badge ?

United Duo scoops Barclays end of season awards

After a triumphant year which has seen them win a record-breaking 19th league title, the Scot and his captain have both been given their accolades by the Premier League’s sponsors

Sir Alex Ferguson has been rewarded for guiding Manchester United to a record-breaking 19th league title by being awarded the Barclays Manager of the Year award while his captain Nemanja Vidic has been named Player of the Year.

This is the ninth time that Ferguson has been given this award to go alongside his 12 league titles at Old Trafford, and it is the second occasion that Vidic has been named Player of the Year since joining United in 2006. The Serb has enjoyed another great season at centre-back and was a key cog in the team that went unbeaten until February, when they finally succumbed to Wolves. The Red Devils have only conceded 35 goals in 37 matches this season and Vidic has found the back of the net five times, including in the title decider at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago against Chelsea. Ferguson has been widely praised for bringing together a squad who have appeared much weaker than recent United sides and who had an out of form Wayne Rooney to contend with for the first half of the season.

The decision for both awards was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.

Congratulations to Sir Alex & Vidic !

United captures De Gea !

Manchester United is believed to have secured their first signing of the summer.

Spain Under-21 goalkeeper David De Gea has confirmed he will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, and now his club have accepted, in principle, a United offer of around £16million.Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed this week he wants three high-profile new faces to cover the departure of some of his most experienced players, with Gary Neville and Edwin Van der Sar retiring, and Paul Scholes possibly following suit.

A keeper is top of his list, and positive contact has already been made with representatives of De Gea, who is only 20 but is already regarded as one of the best at his position in Europe.Contrary to suggestions in Spain, no deal has yet been signed. But the new Premier League champions are supremely confident they have their man after being given permission to talk to the player.

Chief executive David Gill said: "We know the keeper we want and are in a good position, and I'm sure we can get the deal done."But the De Gea deal is clearly just the start of a big-money summer for United, who are prepared to spend big to ensure they replace important players with quality performers proven at the highest level. While De Gea is still a youngster, he has already won his spurs at the top level, helping Atletico win the Europa League last season and the UEFA Super Cup back in August and playing in the Champions League.

The Godfather stays home..!

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, 69, has insisted that he will remain at the Old Trafford helm for the foreseeable future after revealing he has no plans to retire.

Fergie said: "I have no plans to retire, I must say that and my wife Cathy is delighted. She would have thrown me out."The salient point is that whilst my health is good, carry on. You hear many stories of people who come off the treadmill and their system breaks down. I don't want that happening to me."

Becks back for Gary Neville's Testimonial confirmed !

David Robert Joseph Beckham shows his loyalty to his boyhood club!

DAVID BECKHAM handed long-time pal Gary Neville a major boost last night by revealing he will fly back from Los Angeles for the full-back's Old Trafford testimonial on Tuesday.  Neville had sent out an invitation to Becks last week, hoping he would face Juventus and ensure a bumper crowd by appearing in a Manchester United shirt for the first time since 2003. It will mark the reunion of United's famous 'Class of 1992' which included Becks, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

But it also signals a major climbdown from the LA Galaxy, who did not want their 36-year-old midfield star to travel.  Becks' LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena said: "We'd be resting David in one of the games next week anyway." And Becks added: "I think Bruce knows how important it is for Gary. It's more important than anything for me to be there for Gary."
